Three years later and I still haven't watched Tsui Hark's "Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame". Not sure if I even have an unopened DVD lying around. (Blu-ray - what's that?). Anyway, "Detective Dee: The Prequel", formally "Young Detective Dee: Rise of the Sea Dragon", again helmed by Hark, hits the big screen September 28 (in 3D, natch) . This time around, Taiwan heartthrob Mark Chao plays a 21 year-old Dee, Angelababy and William Feng Shaofeng head the cast. and Carina Lau returns as Empress Wu.
